Hello world!

We trust that all of the lovely ladies of South Africa had a wonderful National Women’s Day on the 9th. You keep our country going!

Speaking of keeping things going, is your assistant the only reason you haven’t burnt out yet? Are your admin staff your equivalent of Santa’s elves? Say thank you to them for keeping you on track at our Secretary’s Brunch for National Secretary’s Day on 6th September. We know you probably don’t pay Edith anywhere enough to put up with just how much hassle you give her, so treat her to our champagne brunch. There’s a non-alcoholic, sparkling grape juice option too. Just R185 per person.

Before we continue, we reserve the right to make use of a single weather pun. Just one, we promise. The Rockwell was flooded (ha!) with celebrities this week as we hosted the press conference, and housed the artists involved with the 2nd Annual Berlin eKapa Festival presented by J&B South Africa on 5th August. Some names you’d have found mulling about the lobby include Nomuzi "Moo-zlie!" Mabena, DJ Doowap, Rouge, Carissa Robyn Cupido, DJ Capital and Muma Khumalo. Our events facilities are available for you to book for your next press conference or meeting.

You don’t need an allocated day to enjoy our Burger & Beer/Cider Special at the Rockwell Cafe. These burgers are legendary for both their size and taste. This special is only valid for 1 month @ R98 per person.

The Rockwell Dinner Theatre has been awarded its fourth consecutive TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. Our current production is the incredible Basil Appollis’ Kaapse Stories from the Mother City, taking you back to District 6 via the Kleintjies family while you enjoy a traditional Cape cuisine 4-course meal. Book now!

On a painful note, we bid a sad farewell to a very special member of the Rockwell family, our porter, Sisathu Xapa aka Smiley (27/07/80 - 04/08/2017). He is survived by his son and mother. Smiley started his time at The Rockwell over a decade ago as a parking attendant. He had the most memorable smile you’d have ever encountered. He had a positive impact on everyone he came into contact with and was always willing to help, going above and beyond what was required of him. When he wasn’t helping everyone else out, he was always reading. Our memorial for Smiley took place this week, but we will continue to keep his family and friends in our prayers. You will not be forgotten, but truly missed.

Go cuddle your loved ones and keep warm!

The Rockwell Team.
