Although most of us are still hustling to finish off the work year on a strong note, many have already begun their Christmas holidays. Whether you’re one of the lucky early birds or will only be on holidays from next week, having a plan for daily activities to keep the family busy over the next few weeks is a must!

We’ve put together a list of some exciting, fun, family-friendly (for the most part!) activities around the Cape to enjoy this festive season.

    1. What: From Christmas carols with Boney M to jiving with Goldfish, there is a little something for everyone this Summer at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The best part? Tickets start as low as R150 per concert and you are free to bring your own picnic food & blanket to enjoy on the rolling grassy hills.

  1. Promenade Putt-Putt:
    1. What: Head to Mouille Point for a friendly game of miniature golf with the whole family this summer! For both young and old, the beautiful ocean view and relaxing putt-putt combination is sure to be a winner.

    1. What: Held at the Rockwell Dinner Theatre inside the prestigious Rockwell Hotel in Greenpoint, Cape Town, the Kaapse Stories Dinner Show is the perfect experience for guests of all ages! Enjoy an award-winning show, a welcome glass of bubbly or orange juice and a delicious 4-course Cape cuisine meal for only R500 this December, or R520 in 2019.

  1. Oranjezicht City Farm Market:
    1. What: Held at the historic Granger Bay site of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, the OZCF market is a farmers-style market for independent, local farmers, artisanal food producers and those with small businesses specialising in décor, clothing, jewellery and the likes.
    2. When: Every Saturday from 9am-2pm & Sunday from 9am-3pm, no matter what the weather!

  1. Concerts at De Waal Park:
    1. What: Enjoy the glorious sunshine this summer with picnic blankets, snacks, drinks and awesome live music at De Waal Park. The talented Jimmy Nevis is scheduled for the next event, so you won’t want to miss this! And only for R20 each? It can’t be true (oh, but it is!).
    2. When: Sunday 13 January from 3pm-6pm.


  1. Taalmonument Full Moon Picnics:
    1. What: On a hill overlooking Paarl with some uniquely beautiful Cape Town views sits the Taalmonument, built in 1975 to celebrate the language of Afrikaans. This location has become the perfect host for these annual full moon picnics held all summer long!

  1. Galileo Open Air Cinema:
    1. What: The Galileo Open Air Cinema is open and ready to go in its 7th season showing classic movie favourites under the stars at a range of stunning locations around the Cape. Feel free to bring your own picnic basket with eats & drinks, but food stalls are also available with a variety of treats to enjoy.
    2. When: Every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until April 2019, weather permitted.

  1. Vergenoegd Duck Parade:
    1. What: Nestled in beautiful Stellenbosch just outside Cape Town lies the Vergenoegd Wine Estate with one very unique feature: Ducks! As a natural method of pest control, over 1000 ducks live on the property and between 9 and 10am on weekdays, you can watch them all parade proudly around the estate! It is most definitely a site to see. Enjoy a delicious cheese and charcuterie platter with some wine tasting while you’re at it and you’ve got yourself the perfect day out in wine country.
