Watch a Family Film under the stars at the Galileo open-air cinema
It’s that time of year again! Grab your blankets and get ready for a movie night to remember at one of the Galileo Open Air Cinema’s picturesque locations. Grab some tasty snacks from the vendors before cuddling up on picnic blankets to enjoy one of the many family-friendly movies on offer throughout the festive season, with films suitable for all ages. See films like: How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Secret Life of Pets, Mrs Doubtfire, and more from the 20th of November till the 31st of January.
Take the little ones on an adventure at Uncle Pauls Christmas Party
A huge hit every year, the kids will love joining in the fun at Uncle Paul’s Christmas Party, hosted on the grounds of a magical castle at the historic Groot Constantia Wine Estate. Perfect for children aged 3 and up, they can take a hayride on a tractor through the estate, get into hay fights and play games, sing along to Christmas carols, enjoy a visit from Noddy and Friends, and finally, the arrival of Santa himself, ready to give presents to all the children. Ride the cable car into the sunset with the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Sunset Special
See Cape Town like you’ve never seen it before from the top of Table Mountain, lit up with swathes of orange and gold from the setting sun. After 6 PM cable car tickets are half price, making it super affordable to take your family up the mountain to watch the sunset over the Mother City. Just be sure to pack a warm jacket, it can get pretty chilly up there, especially after 6 PM. The special runs from the 1st of November to the 18th of December, and again from the 4th of January to the 29th of February 2020.
Play in the ice and snow at the Canal Walk’s Frozen Fun Slide Park
Who doesn’t love a white Christmas? Take the kids to Canal Walk any time between the 29th of November and the 5th of January to play at the Winter wonderland that is the Frozen Fun Slide Park, celebrating the release of Frozen 2 on the 6th of December. The kids can ride several icy slides, and there’s Olaf’s snowy play area for more frozen fun.
Treat yourself to dinner and a show at the Rockwell Dinner Theatre
We’re proud to be the official venue for the fabulous Kaapse Stories dinner show, offering a delightful 4-course dinner as the colourful adventures of the Kleintjies family unfolds on stage. Set in the historical District Six, it’s a vibrant performance that gives you spectacular insight into our Rainbow Nation. This family-friendly event is on most nights, but they’ll be offering a special performance on Christmas-Eve to help everyone get into the Kaapse Christmas spirit! The doors open between 19h00 and 19h30, and the performance ends at 21h45. You can book your tickets here.
You can make the evening truly magical by extending your stay at The Rockwell All Suite Hotel; a family-friendly hotel, parents will love that children under the age of 12 stay for free, and the spacious rooms make it easy to get comfortable during your stay. Work the vines and have some fun at The Delheim Estate’s Harvest Festival
Celebrate the process of winemaking this Summer by getting to work in the vineyards beside world-renowned winemakers. Pick your grapes and try out stomping them for wine in rustic barrels, and after a morning’s work, you get your very own bottle of Delheim Rosé 2019, Sauvignon Blanc 2019 or Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 to enjoy on the lawns, feasting on delicious fare from food stalls and listening to live music. The whole family will love the tractor rides around the estate, and the kids can enjoy the kiddies play area and face painting while their parents deserve a well-earned glass of wine. Children can take part in the grape picking and stomping. Tickets are R100 per person, and the event takes place on the 25th of January.
